Вкрай цікава книга. Маріанна Кіяновська переклала низку віршів Тувіма та додала коротку хронологію його буття та біографічні довідки про людей, здебільшого з творчих кіл міжвоєнної Польщі, що складали його оточення та сплинули на його творчість. Тувім для мене - знакова постать, не тільки, і навіть не стільки через його поезію, як через ті події, що відбувалися з ним і довкола нього. Для мене Тувім - це от та міжвоєнна Польща, що народилася з уламків імперій, мала свій зоряний час, але, покарана за свої гріхи, якщо дозволите мені такий пафос, виродилася в ПНР. В моєму розумінні, Польща Тувіма мала померти, щоб народилася Польща Ґедройця - і тільки ця Польща зрештою змогла стати частиною об'єднаної Європи. І, попри всі зусилля деяких політичних сил спрямованих на ерозію спадку Ґедройця, ця Польща досі живе - і тільки з такою Польщею можлива ефективна співпраця України. Хоча, як би не парадоксально це було, стадія ПНР була необхідна, щоб між нашими народами з'явилася можливість примирення, про що я власне писав у своїх працях раніше.

Повертаючись до книги, це просто дуже хороші вірші. Гадаю, що українцям треба знати поета, якій, великою мірою, визначив обличчя польської літератури та польської мови загалом у першій половині 20 століття.

Як людина з двома вищими освітами, юрист та міжнародник, я з повною впевненістю кажу, що поруч з путіним будь-які міжнародні договори та правові гарантії лайна варті, якщо у вас немає армії. У нас вона, Слава Богу, є. З Днем ЗСУ!

Радник (придворний ідеолог) Шойгу, якого пророкують наступником Путіна, видав пафосний текст про ідеологічне будівництво "Время больших решений". Там є наступні слова:

"Россия всегда «вытягивала себя за волосы из болота» Большими Проектами — от похода Ермака и покорения Сибири до Транссиба, космоса, ядерного проекта, русской Арктики и воссоединения с Крымом."

Тобто "возз'єднання" - це така остання ланка в ланцюгу "великих проектів", яку ставлять на рівень колонізації Сибіру.

Геть "велика імперія" на пси зійшла. Відібрати у набагато слабшого суперника, який перебуває, фактично, у стані державної кататонії, крихітний шматок землі, запертий у контрольованому турками Чорному морі, та ще й відібрати похабно, так і не домігшися міжнародного визнання окупації, коли населення Криму так і не може користуватися, до прикладу, послугами російських банків, потрапляє під санкції та страждає від проблем з нестачею води, яку "велика держава" за сім років так і не спромоглася вирішити - так, звісно, велике досягнення. Більше приводів до гордощів у "імперської нації" либонь не знайшлося... 

З кінця 19 ст. і до оформлення монолітної комуністичної держави, розвідка модернізованої японської імперії застосовувала до Китаю комплекс розвідувально-диверсійних заходів, що дозволяло Японії ефективно вражати набагато більшого супротивника. Цей комплекс базувався на наступних чотирьох принципах.

Принцип перший: всіляко перешкоджати територіальній цілісності Китаю, дестабілізувати ситуацію, організовувати внутрішні заворушення, втягувати країну в тривалі збройні конфлікти.

Принцип другий: всіляко залучати на свій бік прояпонсько налаштованих китайців, особливо інтелігенцію, негласно підтримувати їх матеріально і морально, забезпечуючи собі надалі з їхньою допомогою доступ до китайських органів влади та політичних партій.

Принцип третій: формувати з китайців агентурний апарат, спираючись на членів таємних товариств і організованих злочинних формувань.

Принцип четвертий: всіляко перешкоджати діалогу між владою і народом, сіяти взаємну недовіру.

Тепер перенесіть ці принципи на теперішній конфлікт України та Росії.

Читаю дослідження клієнтизму. Ґрунтовна праця відомого польського дослідника, що відстежує це явище у різних суспільствах протягом людської історії. Можна рекомендувати тим, хто хоче зрозуміти ситуацію в Україні de facto, а не de iure. Цитата звідти:

«Для "панівного класу" "засобами виробництва" слугувала, власне, участь у здійсненні влади.»
 

Фінальна частина шпигунської трилогії Deutschland - 89, після 83 та 86.

Хоча знято майстерно (трохи змазана сентиментальністю кінцівка, як на мене, в агента Колібрі не мало б бути хеппіенду), поставив не дуже високу оцінку через неспроможність стати на позицію часу, в якому відбуваються події, сформулюю це так. Ні, мова не йде про якісь невідповідності в антуражі, аж ніяк. Атмосфера кінця 80-х подана бездоганно.

Я кажу про філософію цієї оповіді, так би мовити. Це не про 1989. Це про 2019. Це знято з гіркотою розчарування у політиці, в ідеалах ліберальної демократії та ринкового суспільства зокрема. Це знято у світі, оповитому глобальною кризою, з відчуттям безвиході та ідейного банкрутства.

Не треба перекладати з хворої голови на здорову. У 1989 було не так. Людство тоді справді жило новою надією, що дала привід Фукуямі створити концепцію "Кінця історії" (гаразд, радше, переіначити гегелівське її тлумачення). Це провина західної еліти, що вона спочила на лаврах і профукала той величезний кредит довіри, який було отримано за результатами перемоги у третій світовій (холодній) війні, а не повторила, вже на всепланетному рівні з новими, справді загальнолюдськими цілями, титанічне зусилля покоління своїх батьків, що у повоєнному світі 50-х змогло закласти підвалини Free World для половини людства. Що ж, це не вперше в історії, коли після вогню та води хтось не проходить ордалію мідними трубами.

A lot of food for thought. In our modern hyperinformational society, communication is crucial. And the power of narratives is stronger than ever. An interesting book which gives me impulse for the further research in this realm.

One of the most prominent american political analysts, George Friedman, on the institutional crisis and social schism in the USA. Here is the most important part, in my opinion, and the one with the gravest potential consequences:

"The claims regarding Trump and the Russians had their origins in the Democratic National Committee hack and the Steele dossier, and then expanded outward. Many Democrats still think that the claims are true. The current claims regarding the stolen 2020 election originated with Trump himself and will likely be accepted by Republicans for a long time. For all I know, one or both claims are correct."

I really enjoyed this short book written not by a historian-academician, a man who only studies history, but rather by the historian-practitioner, a person who indeed personally made a dent on the course of the XX century.

Sir John Bagot Glubb, you really should look him up in case you never heard this name before. A warrior and a politician he was genuinely interested in the course of the human race history. He did a lot of research and presented his disquisition in this short but very informative book. One could feel his experience, his deep knowledge and wisdom behind each phrase.

His analysis is far from the mainstream academic writing, his language is far from the politically correct newspeak that is so loved by so many modern scholars.

This book is published 1978 but the clarity of vision is simply stunning. For example, the author in not so many words literally predicted how the Soviet Union will meet its end while all of so called sovietologists failed to do so iven in the last months of the Soviet empire. Sadly, the writer didn't live long enough to see with his own eyes the realisation of his brilliant prognosis.

The book is dedicated to the subject of power, how different nations in different conditions managed to create mighty empires - and how all of them eventually failed, with a special attention to the similar pattern of such geopolitical developments in different eras and locations.

A very interested hypothesis about average lifespan of an empire gives us some food for thought concerning the fate of the mightiest among the modern empires - the USA. But given the author's thought about distinction between Roman Republic and Roman Empire this idea could be even more intriguing. I say no more not to spoil the pleasure of this work's future readers.

Shortly: strongly recommend to all interested in politics and history. A book written by such man that reading about him you understand how Brits managed to create such a vast empire.

Malheureusement, mon français est maintenant assez rouillé, donc je ne l'ai lu pas en original, mais en traduction anglaise. Ce livre me rappelle en quelque sorte 'Les mystères de Mithra' de Franz Cumont.

An interesting and deep study of the mythological roots of the concept of political sovereignty for the Indo-European peoples. It gives a reader some food for thoughts that is quite relevant even in modern political conditions.

Clint Eastwood is the living embodiment not only of the American cinematography but of the American spirit as well. At least, the ideal I personally believe the American spirit is. He created many truly iconic characters as an actor and now we can enjoy another wonderful movie that he did as a director. 'Richard Jewell' is a movie based on the real events. It is a deeply psychological social drama. It is a story about modest hero, coming form the little people of America, the people that used to be called 'a silent majority'. He is everything that modern "progressive people" consider to be "not cool". He is white man with traditional views and deep respect for the law and order, with a figure of an officer of the law enforcement as a role model. He possesses guns, he shoots for the recreation with the NRA members, he hunts. He works honestly and he truly believes in the System. And the System fails him, the System uses him as a scapegoat, the System tears his life apart.This exact story ends well. But how many such richards were left unheard, alone with their despair? No wonder, that 'a silent majority' is no longer silent, that it rebelled against the establishment in the US - and we can see the same processes all over the world. Eastwood heard this story of the heartland of America. And he told it us masterfully. </lj-cut>

I'm not surprised this book is banned in modern Russia. Alas, I'd not be surprised, if this book finds itself forgotten in modern Poland, under the PiS. Indeed, when the Titans leave, there are dwarfs on the stage. Jan Nowak-Jeziorański was a great thinker. And it was a pleasure to read his Rzeczpospolita atlantycka (Восточные размышления, Eastern Reflections in Russian translation). People like him and Gedroits (with whom he polemicized) laid the foundation for peace and stability in Eastern and Central Europe after the Cold War. Reading his wise reflections on how Poland should build relations with its neighbors, in particular Ukraine, one could be simply horrified at how much the present Polish government is doing exactly the opposite. History teaches us that everything passes, and I hope that the era of populism and speculation on nationalism in Poland will soon come to an end.

"One selfless act of love and hope. That's what I put my money on."

A brilliant adaptation of the famous novel by Philip K. Dick, which goes, at least in my opinion, far beyond the book itself, and in a good way. I think that the author himself would appreciate this reminder about the truth that even in the most perilous conditions it's crucial for us to stay the humans who draw their strength not in hatred but in Love. Merry Christmas, everyone!

P.S. Second season is even better than the first one. Looking forward for the third!

Perhaps the best thing that has happened to a spy thriller since the first seasons of the Homeland and the Americans.

The series is good not only as a psychological game that keeps a viewer in suspense, and not only grâce à pleiad of excellent actors.

The central question of the series: how far can you go in an attempt to protect the state interests? And at what point does the pursuit of security become the source of this very danger?

This theme is consonant with the book I am currently reading: Save civil rights: freedom and safety by Gerhart Baum.

Baum is a German politician and lawyer. His tenure as a Federal Minister of the Interior coincided with the pick of activities of the infamous RAF, Rote Armee Fraktion. So he was obliged not in theory, but in practice to carry out the massive counter-terrorism campaign – and in the same time to guarde the constitutional rights of citizens, not to allow security measures to infringe civil freedom.

In the series, German workers of BfV (Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution), as well as their American counterparts, very often violate the boundary between acceptable and unacceptable (to be fair, it is sometimes very blurred). And this leads to grave and unpredictable consequences.

So I recommend this series not only as entertainment, but also as a food for reflection. It is especially relevant in our time, when the war on terror becomes more and more extensive.

Yesterday, while reading the article about English nationalist who killed MP Jo Cox before the Brexit referendum, claiming that she is a traitor and people’s enemy and he wants, by this assasination, to re-establish old glory of Great Britain – I was thinking about the past. How often the past catches all our attention and resources, and forbids us to think about future. How often some people want to speculate on this, pursuing their own private goals. I see this only too well in my own country… and here, in Poland. And in France. And in the US. And… You can prolongate this list endlessly. And I remember these words from Ulysses by Alexander Pope:

Thus solemn rites and holy vows we paid
To all the phantom nations of the dead.

We are paying. But sometimes the price is just too high.

Многократно видел буквально истерическую, исходящую слюной реакцию москалей на Савченко.

Увидел недавно нормальный шутливый пост с картинкой. И тут же первым комментом выполз некий, возмущающийся сравнением с "этим мужиком" - т.е. с Савченко.

Какая у них до дрожи, до физиологического неприятия боязнь, у русскомирцев этих, боязнь сильных женщин. Быть может оттого, что это вечное напоминание им, что они - немужики. Что эти воспитанники, в большинстве своём, однополых семей (мама и бабушка), так топящие за "сильную руку" ~~у себя в жопе~~ и против геев и вообще, всех "не таких", сами ничегошеньки маскулинного на своих просиженных диванах из себя не представляют...

фу, до чего же отвратная порода... всё это подленькое воспевание гопнической силы от слабаков с дивана, вся эта гордость ничтожеств за "ихтамнетов" и "северный ветер" (из зада, ага), "ради вяликой пабеды всей страной врать будем!" и прочие мерзости... фу, ну что за клоака... что жа ничтожный народишко...

Это была не ненависть, а непризнание этих русских собак людьми и такое отвращение, гадливость и недоумение перед нелепой жестокостью этих существ, что желание истребления их, как желание истребления крыс, ядовитых пауков и волков, было таким же естественным чувством, как чувство самосохранения.

My observation: people are tired of political establishment. And this is a global trend. And people have every right for that attitude. Politicians are playing by the same old rules from 20th century. And we all live in absolutely new era already.

This public fatigue expresses itself in popularity of figures which would be the inhabitants of the political margin in any different circumstances.

A striking example of this is the election in the United States where the extreme right and extreme left (relatively speaking) voters are dissatisfied with the "swamp of establishment" both in the Republican and in the Democratic party and vote for independent candidates, causing such controversial feelings.

The same situation exists in Iceland where disgruntled voters put forward a new Pirate party in opposition to the old political organizations.
The political system is changing forever and those who cannot understand this do not have a future.
